Sleeping through the night

I think that sleeping through the night without waking up, or having to pee, or having the covers stolen, is a privilege that very few people enjoy. People who work in construction or in a hospital, or raising unruly pit bull puppies. Last night I slept as though there were rose petals on my eyelids, didn't remember any of my dreams, and woke up feeling refreshed. But, then I took Hepburn and Fitz-G for a walk and nearly lost an arm. I guess the physical strains of a full day are rewarded by the deep sleep of someone who is truly tired. I think I've changed tense like 6 times in the last paragraph. Could this be sign of tiredness or is it just because Hepburn head-butted me this morning?

I was pondering some deep thoughts today though. For instance, if an owner lets their dog get fleas and lose half their body weight, and then lets that same dog out into the dangerous and very busy streets of South Central Los Angeles, do they have the right to have that dog back? Would it be any good to put up posters to try and find an owner like that? I heard on google that 200 pit bulls are euthanized each day in "shelters". I've lost all hope that we'll find Hepburn's previous owner. And we've stopped calling her Hepburn, she's now: Audrey. The "shelter" website also kindly reminds people that rescuing a dog is good luck. It's sad that people have to be motivated by promises of luck to rescue sweet animals from the perils of street life.

Fitz-G, meanwhile, is gearing up for the Guinness Book of World records competition at the end of the year. She has so far eaten 29 stuffed animals this year (nose, eyeballs, fur, and stuffing), and passed said animals out the other side. See you on the flip side has become her MO as she endeavors each day to sink her teeth into another unsuspecting cloth creature. Today she is working on Winnie The Pooh. I told her that there was no honey, but she didn't seem phased. She's sitting beside me now, one paw on Winnie's tummy, and jaws clenched around his snout. Her only competition is Audrey, who went through the entire cast of the Lion King yesterday afternoon. Hungry puppy.

Surrounded by Fur, listening to Van Morrison's "Caravan", and very very happy,
VA
