Fitz-G's new Habit

Fitz-G (my canine service animal) has started chewing her nails. Or are they called paw claws? She only chews the one that is a bit further up her leg (somehow nature has not seen fit to get rid of it yet). I'm worried that this habit is the sign of something more serious. Any experts on dog behavior feel free to weigh in on this.
